Color Lines: The Troubled Dreams of Racial Harmony in an American Town
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (August, 1995)
Average review score:

a must-read...Mike Kelly does an incredibly thorough and fair job of exploring the events surrounding the police shooting of a black youth and how this incident transformed a "model" suburban town. As someone who grew up in Teaneck during the racial turmoil Kelly writes about, this book has special signficance for me. I recommend it to those looking to explore the complexities of race in America and how small-town institutions--the police, the clergy, and the local government--each play an important role in this issue. I especially recommend it to anyone from Teaneck because it paints a very accurate portrait of the town while offering some remarkable new insights.
